THE CHARACTER
Character Name: Snake (Light Field)
Series: Zero Escape: 999
Canon Point: Post-999, around a year after the game
Character Age: 25
Background: Here! To put things simply, Snake follows the True Ending where everyone leaves alive.
Personality: Snake is a knowledgeable, confident, and capable young man that would go great lengths to see those around him succeed for their mutual benefit. When unprovoked he is calm and collected, providing guidance cheekily and cheerfully despite a situation they are in being dire. When provoked, he makes no attempt to hide the intensity of his anger, and will go to so far to sacrifice himself in the name of avenging a loved one.
When it comes to first impressions, Snake has a "princely" demeanor, carrying himself with high opinions and amusement in others' more extreme, but appropriate, reactions. He is shown to be insightful with sharp attention to his surroundings despite his blindness, and rational to point out the obvious to those who are less levelheaded. Though it provides assistance in maneuvering through puzzles laid out before the groups he is in, it is near the point of arrogance when someone asks "do you know something?" and receives "I know a great many things, but yes."
In his interactions with others, Snake does the opposite of shroud himself in mystery. He shows no reluctance in revealing he is blind, and only withholds the fact he is missing an arm only because it might draw suspicion to his character when there is an unknown killer. He's described as doing things with great flourish, and shown to be prideful when he must explain something related to himself. He's aware of the skepticism that comes with his disabilities, and though hardly warranted, explains that he would do very well in a fight and questions whether or not Junpei, the player character, would like to test it.
Though Snake is perseverant, maintaining his wit through unfortunate situations, he is not indifferent to suffering or unaware of the dangers he is in. In his youth, among panicked children, he calls attention to everyone to calm them down with a story to inspire them to find their escape. In the present, when it becomes safe to speak about the game they have found themselves in, he recounts his first kidnapping incident with no small amount of sadness due to the fact a child did not make it through. It weighs heavily on him to keep such a secret so long, but his unwavering secrecy is for the sake of his sister's safety.
Ultimately, Snake can be defined by his love for his sister. Whether or not he has actual regard for his own well being (after he was locked in a coffin and changed into ritualistic robes) is unknown, as he seeks to comfort his distressed sister and continue to work towards their escape. His demeanor is only broken when his sister, Clover, is any apparent danger. He's reasonably distressed when she is taken hostage by another crazed participant of the game. Though his love for her is unfaltering, he is not protective to the point he would sacrifice rationality to accompany her, and scolds her for being selfish for wanting to stay together. He also has the same irritability as he does with others when she does not show sense, as he hears she's revealed information that he told her to withhold from the others.
In the Safe ending, where Clover has been murdered, he reaches an anger beyond any point of return. He completely disregards the fact he still has a chance of escape, attacking the armed murderer knowing full well he will be taking bullets. He finds the strength to get up again, and again, eventually latching himself onto the killer so they both will be forced to burn in an incinerator. In the end, his blind rage boils to sadness, and he expresses that he hopes that she will be able to forgive him for being unable to protect her.
After the events of the Nonary Game, Snake stays true to his belief in his own capabilities, leaving the safety of his mother and his hired bodyguards to pursue his own life with Clover. Though it's said he quit playing the guitar after the accident costing his arm, he picks up the harp to provide for him and his sister. Clover implies that he continues to learn all that he can about the world, remaining source of wisdom and knowledge for her.
Powers/Abilities: Snake does not have any "inhuman" powers aside from his telekinetic connection to his sister through the morphogenetic field concept of the game. He is able to receive information from his sister through focused thoughts despite a great distance away from one another. Otherwise, Snake proves to have exceptional hearing, and claims (later proving) he's at an advantage in a fight. Despite getting shot around six times in one of the game's Safe ending, he has the perseverance to get up and/or crawl to take down his sister's murderer. This is assumed to be through sheer willpower.
Power Nerfs (if applicable): I really don't mind if the telekinetic ability is taken from him, since it can only occur between him and his sister anyhow.
Inventory: Snake has the clothes on his back and a realistic prosthetic left arm. It's implied that it has cybernetic nerves as a bionic arm (given the 2027 technology). This is supported by him clinging onto pants with his left hand, as well as the fact that his hand and arm refuses to release with such strength, even after being kicked.
Incentives: Snake only asks for the guaranteed safety of his sleeping sister, Clover. Though he is blind and missing a limb, he doesn't consider it a disadvantage, and only asks that he regain another prosthetic in the case of ever losing/breaking his original beyond repair. In the case of his sister awakening and he has no need for anything, he'd like some opportunity to try and continue making music.
